Healing. Wellness. Kindness.

The HAWK Principle

HEAL the trauma so you may get WELL and further develop the capacity to be KIND.

Team HAWK uses the foundational cornerstones of education, art, advocacy and community to connect individuals and institutions with the paths and tools that best suit their needs on the journey toward healing, wellness and kindness.

From the Ground Up

Housing First… Then What?

The HAWK Principle subscribes to the ‘Housing First’ model of support for people experiencing houselessness. With this approach, houseless people are quickly moved into independent and permanent housing while being provided a variety of wrap-around supports and services.

After the basics of food, clothing and housing are met, most people tend to crave one thing… Connection.

They want to know someone cares about them. They want to know that someone will be there for them when they need help the most.

They want to know that someone has their back.

The Theory of Kindness

The Theory of Relativity is e = mc².
The Theory of Kindness (aka ‘The HAWK Principle’) is E = ac².

Most of our lives we have been told to “Be Kind”. But what happens when we lose the capacity to be kind? The ever evolving, changing and fast-paced world we live in has made it harder and harder to “Be Kind”.

The lack of kindness is directly tied to our lack of wellness. Mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually…we as a species, are not well.

And the reason for this is…trauma.

We ALL suffer from trauma. We MUST heal our trauma.

Once we begin to heal our individual, AND collective trauma, we will begin to become well. Once we are well, we can further develop the capacity to ‘Be Kind’.

Team HAWK is dedicated to helping others heal. We are dedicated to helping individuals connect. Connect to their culture. Connect to their community. Connect to themselves.

The Real
‘Gateway Drug’
is Trauma

Trauma is THE gateway drug.

The houselessness and the addictions crisis don’t run 9-5…they require 24 hour care.  We focus on our community with trauma informed care.

When people are trying to get sober, they require help when they request it. However, it’s difficult when ‘the system’ constantly puts you into a cycle. You go to detox but then you are spit back out onto the streets to wait for your treatment bed.

It doesn’t make any sense. Things have to change. There is a better way. That way is… CONNECTION.

Our Mission

We are passionate about creating change and advocating for accessibility.

Team HAWK has a very ambitious plan:

1) Quarterback a housing co-op.

2) Connect existing services and supports to maximize efficiency and resources.

Our goal is to offer housing and support groups, with a focus on community, Indigenous well-being and anti-oppressive models of care.

Team HAWK will be culturally humble and aware of the community we are working in. Our programs are based on respectful cultural worldviews and practices. We want our services and programs to connect each community’s culture, as culture plays a major role in identity.

We provide a safe space that rejects stigmatization and colonial organizations. Team HAWK builds connection through trust, generosity, respect, and humour.

This approach aims to bring people into having long-lasting support networks as well as to strengthen the ties within the community.

We believe in meeting people where they are at and empowering them. We understand the personal impacts of systemic issues facing our communities and use this knowledge to empower those we work with and as a motivator to continue developing our principle. Collectively, HAWK, is dedicated to working towards social iustice. reconciliation, decolonization, and to provide a respectful and safe environment for all members of our community.
